Global warming is just climatic change
Thursday, 19 November 2009
FURTHER to earlier correspondence on global warming, I calculate that because of the difference in the Earth’s seasonal orbit and its full orbital year, it experiences a recurring cycle of climatic change over a period of about 25,800 years. No doubt professional scientists are aware of this.
Furthermore, as the Northern Hemisphere has much the greater land mass it is probable that the N.H. experiences the greater changes.
An important fact in assessing future changes is that about 13,000 years ago, halfway through the current cycle, much of the N.H., including the British Isles, was covered in ice.
Presumably, therefore, we in the N.H. are now beginning to experience the warmer part of the cycle.
This should be noticeable by the equinoxes and the solstices changing by about one hour every three years (roughly one day or one degree of orbit every 72 years). Is this actually happening?
Currently, the winter solstice is on December 21, but the Earth is closest to the Sun in early January so this suggests that the N.H. will naturally experience warmer winters for a few more centuries.
